Protecting the bumper of the car is an important task within the framework of car care and prolongation of its service life. This issue is especially relevant in large cities, where high traffic is a frequent occurrence. What can damage the car? Strange as it may seem, but first of all it is worth mentioning poor quality road surface: small stones and pebbles, sand and bitumen get on the car body and damage the paintwork. Also washing the car with high pressure can damage the paintwork, brightening up both old and new damage.

However, there is a highly effective solution! Anti-gravel film is a kind of bumper armour. It is not for nothing that in the circles of car enthusiasts this service is often called “bumper armouring with anti-gravel film”. It is easy to apply, durable and flexible, and provides many benefits:

  • Protects the bumper from various scratches, as well as chips and scuffs;
  • Prevents corrosion;
  • Protects against chemical effects on the car body;
  • Improves appearance;
  • Prevents the need to repaint the vehicle.

Why you need bumper protection with anti-gravel film in Riga and what you need to know

It is important to realise that it is optimal to install the protective film as soon as possible after purchasing the car. Otherwise, it is recommended that damaged areas of the paintwork be repaired and painted before the film is applied.

The anti-gravel film is easy to change when it wears out after 5-7 years: it can be removed without a trace.

In addition, if you sell your car, removing the film will help you get a higher price by preserving the “factory” look. Remember that the front of the car is particularly susceptible to damage and needs to be protected first.

It is also not superfluous to protect the rear bumper with a film, as it suffers from the use of the boot and the ingress of stones, gravel and sand from under the wheels of the following cars behind, as well as when parking the car.

Types of bumper films

There are two main types of films: vinyl and polyurethane armour films. Both types are highly elastic. Depending on the manufacturer, they have a thickness from 100 to 250 microns. The inner surface of the film is coated with a special adhesive composition.

We recommend using polyurethane films for car wraps. In the case of bumpers, this is especially important, as vinyl is inferior to polyurethane in almost all respects (strength, durability, self-repair). Polyurethane film is inconspicuous on the body, while it effectively protects the bumper from the impact of stones and scratches, chemical reagents, sandblasting and small scuffs.

Polyurethane, importantly, has a self-healing effect: minor scratches can be easily repaired by heat treatment.

Steps of bumper coating with protective polyurethane anti-gravel film:

  1. Bumper cleaning, including removal of dirt, chemical residue and dust.
  2. Treatment of the surface with a special composition to increase adhesion.
  3. Cutting the film to the dimensions of the bumper.
  4. Applying the film to the bumper and heating it with a hair dryer to make it flexible and mouldable.
  5. Smoothing of the film with soft rakels.
